It looks like AC Milan will have their first major signing under their new Chinese owners. According to reports, Milan have agreed to sign Villarreal center back Mateo Musacchio. The fee for the Argentine center back will be around 18 million Euros.

The new era in Milan Football

Earlier this week, it was announced by former owner Silvio Berlusconi that the tea, had been sold to a Chinese group. The former Prime Minister of Italy did not discuss a price but said that the team has chosen the path toward China and has accepted what was offered to him.

He added a stipulation for the new owners by saying that the new owners must invest at least 400 million Euros into the club over the next two seasons. With the new owners, Chinese groups now own majority stakes in both AC Milan and rivals Inter.

Injury struck season hampered Musacchio

Last season, Musacchio started the season on the sidelines after picking up a horrific injury late in the 2014-15 season with a fracture of his fibula. He would make his debut in December and was able to play for a couple of months before another injury hit. A hamstring injury kept the Argentine out from late February to late March.

He would pick another hamstring injury just a week after returning and would return in late April.

Musacchio’s Villarreal career

The Argentine made the move to Spain from Argentine powerhouse River Plate in 2009. He would go on to play for the Yellow Submarines’ B team for a year before earning his call-up to the senior team. In his seven years on the senior team, he’s made 166 appearances, scoring seven goals.
