Dynamo Dresden have secured their promotion back to the 2. Bundesliga despite being held to a 2-2 draw by FC Magdeburg.

Jubilant scenes in the travelling support were sparked when Dynamo overturned a two-goal deficit, responding through Pascal Testroet and Justin Eilers to give them the necessary point for promotion.

It was a stark contrast to the events two years previous, in which SGD were relegated to the third tier with a 17th place finish after a dramatic 3-2 home defeat to Arminia Bielefeld

Uwe Neuhaus' men have been nothing short of sensational this season, establishing early momentum at the top of the league and never looking back. SGD have lost just twice all season, scoring 65 goals and conceding just 31, allowing them to accumulate 68 points from the 34 matches so far.

The story of the season

Dresden were formidable to start the season. After a 4-1 win at home to VfB Stuttgart II in the opening game of the season, they went on to win 11 out of the next 13 games.

At the heart of this streak was an eight game winning run, seeing off Hallescher, Werder Bremen II, Chemnitzer, Fortuna Köln, Onsabrück, Stuttgarter Kickers, Aalen and Rostock.

Indeed the team was defeated just twice throughout the whole season, those losses being by solitary goals against Energie Cottbus (0-1) and Rot-Weiß Erfurt (3-2).

Free-flowing offensive football has been the order of the season: the team has scored three goals or more in ten games, including two 4-0 victories and a 5-1 win. This was complemented by a stellar defensive effort with 12 clean sheets, thanks to a main core of Giulano Modica, Michael Hefele and Fabian Müller.

In attack, Testroet has 18 goals so far leading the forward department, although the story of the season has been former Braunschweig and Bochum II man Eilers, who has 20 goals having played every game this season.

A bright future awaits?

The main question for this SGD team is all about what the future holds. Undoubtedly Dynamo are one of the biggest clubs in the East, and with a 30,000 seater stadium that is guaranteed to be sold out next season, the sky is the limit.

With an intelligent coach and an exciting core of players, you can expect them to hit the 2. Bundesliga with the same energy we have seen this season.

Good to have you back, Dynamo.
