INCIDENTS: Champions League game between Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Second half goals from Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil saw Bayern Munich lose their first competitive game of the season, as Arsenal beat them 2-0 in the Champions League.

Despite being on top for most of the game, Manuel Neuer had to make an amazing save to keep Theo Walcott's header out in the first half, and could do nothing about Giroud and Ozil's late strikes.

The Germans named a strong side that included the inform Robert Lewandowski, whilst the Gunners kept faith with Walcott as their main man up top. There was one change made from the weekend's win over Werder Bremen by Pep Guardiola, with Douglas Costa replacing Rafinha.

With the cheapest ticket available for the game a staggering £64, Bayern fans stayed out of the stadium for the first five minutes in protest, and were applauded by the home fans as they entered.

It was those home fans who saw the first chance of the game go to their side, as Alexis Sanchez set up Mesut Ozil on the edge of the box, only for Neuer to push his right footed attempt wide.

Bayern dominate but are frustrated by Cech

Petr Cech was always going to have to play well if Arsenal were to get something from the game, and set to work early on, making an excellent save from Thiago's effort as he broke free in the box.

Bayern were in control of the game, and it showed as they kept possession with relative ease. Arturo Vidal was the next to try his luck from midfield, but it was a more comfortable save for Cech that time.

Despite the Germans being on top, they did almost concede with 10 minute remaining in the first half. Running onto a cross from the left wing, Walcott directed a bullet header towards goal, and half the stadium were already off their feet celebrating, only for Neuer to shuffle across and save brilliantly low down with his left hand.

Normal order was resumed before the end of the 45, with Cech's final act of the half being to push a Costa shot over the bar. That shot from the winger concluded an excellent half for him, in which he had ran Hector Bellerin ragged.

Starting the second half in the same vein as they ended the first, Bayern dominated with the ball, but couldn't open the scoring.

Lewandowski has a half-volley dealt with by Cech, whilst Arsenal suffered the misfortune of having Aaron Ramsey forced off injured, the Welshman coming off for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after seemingly suffering a hamstring problem.

Another Arsenal sub saw Walcott replaced by Giroud, but it was at the other end where things were still happening, as Lewandowski missed a brilliant chance to make it 1-0.

Bayern won the ball in midfield and moved it forward at pace, eventually threading the Pole through on goal, but Cech again stood tall to deflect the shot over the bar thanks to a strong hand.

Giroud puts Arsenal into an unlikely lead

It was a missed chance that Guardiola's side lived to regret, as substitute Giroud gave Arsenal the lead minutes later. Surprisingly, Neuer was at fault for it, as he went to claim Santi Cazorla's free kick, but failed to do so. This allowed Giroud to sneak in behind, and nod the ball in to an empty net.

Although the Bundesliga leaders spent the majority of the final minutes camped in Arsenal's penalty area, it was the Gunners who had the best two chances in the final 10 minutes, and they took one of them.

Ozil makes it two at the last

When Giroud had a free header saved from a corner with five minutes left, you got the feeling that the momentum may have shifted, as Bayern flew up the pitch.

However, the Germans couldn't make pressure pay, and went 2-0 down at the death. Bellerin's pace was unstoppable, racing away down the right hand side with the ball, before crossing for Ozil whose shot squeezed over the line before Neuer pushed it out.

That result keeps Bayern at the top of the group, level with Olympaikos on six points, whilst Arsenal move up to three points, alongside Dinamo Zagreb.
