Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski striker is heralded as one of the best forwards in the world and his ability was in full display as he scored three goals in only four minutes as he led Poland to a win over a resilient Georgia side.

Poland has always been a complicated team to analyze and they always seem to fall a bit short to fulfill their potential. That problem was present today as they dominated the game against Georgia but they were forced to wait until the final minutes to seal the win. The star of the match was Robert Lewandowski who scored an impressive hat-trick in only four minutes.

Dominant hosts

The Polish side started to dominate the game from the early stages. With Lewandowski as the focal point on the offense and with the constant support of Lukasz Piszczek on the right, Slawomir Peszko from midfield and Arkadiusz Milik all over the attacking end, Poland created chances early and often. Piszczek set up Kamil Grosicki in the 11th minute but his effort was wide - that would be the first notice as Poland managed to look threatening throughout the entire first half.

Peszko tried to blast a shot on goal but Georgia's GK Giorgi Loria was magnificent to stop his effort. Lewandowski himself had three chances before the 25th minute mark but couldn't capitalize any of them. As a result, the first half ended with a scoreless draw but it was clear that Poland's goal was expected to arrive sooner than later.

Goalless at the break

The second half maintained the same scheme as Poland kept pushing forward while Georgia limited to try to protect the result as much as they could. Their resistance only lasted 60 minutes as Poland finally broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, when a pass from Krzysztof Mączyński found Milik - the striker fired the ball into the left corner to give Poland the advantage.

Georgia managed to create their first scoring chance around the 80th minute. An accurate pass inside the box found Giorgi Navalovski who blasted a screamer but it rattled the crossbar. Georgia would surely want that back as the game went quickly out of reach for them in the final minutes.

Lewandowski shows his quality

Lewandowski had plenty of chances to score but couldn't capitalize them until the final minutes. The former Borussia Dortmund star scored three goals in four minutes (89, 92 and 93 minutes) to give his side a strong lead that turned out to be a more fair reflection of what really happened on the pitch.

The 4-0 win from Poland puts them in an expectant position to reach the European Championship next year but they have to take it one game at a time. They next opponent will be Germany on September 4th while Georgia will have to battle against Scotland that same day.
