Manchester City have already announced the new deals of existing players Karen Bardsley and skipper Steph Houghton.

They continue this pattern as the club announced that  throw in extraordinaire Megan Campbell has signed a new contract.

Another one year deal

When Campbell initially joined Manchester City in 2016, the deal was for one year but this new contract will see the defender stay for a further year.

Despite missing most of the 2016 season that saw the Citizens do the double, the ROI international more than made up for it when she returned from injury. In the Women's FA Cup, Campbell was instrumental to the dominant scoreline that saw City lift the cup. First assisting Lucy Bronze from a perfectly placed freekick to then finding Carli Lloyd with another inch perfect delivery.

Outside of the confines of Wembley, Campbell's return to the first team was worthy of a contract extension as she impressed. The defender is pleased with her performances as she told the club website, "I wanted to make their minds up for them and thankfully, I was able to. It’s nice to perform well and impress in front of your manager.”

In addition to impressing Nick Cushing throughout the FA WSL Spring Series, Campbell used the time to get back to match fitness, "I’ve been trying to get back to full fitness, increasing my gametime. I’ve did everything I could to prove I was good enough to stay in the squad,"

“I’m pleased with the way I performed in the Spring Series and FA Cup but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the team," she added.

City like a family for Campbell

The Irish player also expressed her delight to the club website in regards to this new deal, “I’m really happy.”

She continued, "This Club is like a family and I’m really grateful to the players and staff for putting their trust in me. There’s quality on and off the pitch here."

Campbell also expressed that the manager has been a large part of her fitting into Manchester City, “Nick is an unbelievable manager to work under. I love how easy it is to talk to him and having the whole team behind me has made life so much easier."
