Undisclosed length of contract
The club's skipper first made her move to Manchester from Arsenal in 2014, when the club was relaunched. This will make the upcoming winter season her fourth with the Citizens.
However, the announcement from the club comes without confirmation of how long the new contract will last between. Despite this, Houghton has made it very clear that she is committed to City in an interview with the club website
"I've only ever seen my future at the club. I had no intention of going anywhere else and this is my home now."
Pivotal in City's success
The centre-back has been key for Manchester City. Looking to the past 12 months the club have earned the FA Women's Super League title, the Continental Cup and the FA Cup. Many of their victories can be attributed defensive resolve which has been captained by Houghton.
Aside from duties on the pitch, Nick Cushing has made it clear that his team is centred around development of youth. With 85 caps for the England National team and having captained her country since 2014, the ex-Sunderland player has no doubt been influential for the youngsters climbing the ranks within City.
In addition to the silverware and title success, Houghton has also led City to the semi-final of the UEFA Women's Champions League as debutants.
What next for Houghton's City?
Despite recently finishing as runners up in the inaugural Spring Series tournament, the skipper wants to bring more success to the dedicated fan base.
“Ever since the first moment I arrived, I’ve been made to feel welcome here and now I just want to help us to win more trophies for our amazing fans who follow us everywhere.”
