West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has ruled out a move for Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette, with the imminent arrival of Argentina's Jonathan Calleri.

Ending all pursuits

It has been no secret that Bilic has been pursuing a top-class striker over the summer, having been linked with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Theo Walcott and Carlos Bacca.

The French striker was also one of those targets, with the club reportedly making several approaches for the 25-year-old which have all been rejected, but ahead of their opening league match with Chelsea, Bilic confirmed that their pursuit of the Frenchman is over.

He said: "100 per cent we will not go for Lacazette. We will sign Calleri and he will be with us pretty soon depending on the work permit."

Bilic said: "He is a top striker and we have a good balance in the squad. We have a big couple of weeks in front of us with five big games."

Making a bid

It seems that Lacazette isn't the only Lyon player that the Hammers have pursued, with L'Equipe reporting that the Hammers have submitted a  £6.9m bid for Rachid Ghezzal, and president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed the bid from the London side.

He said: "I like Rachid a lot. It would be really good if we might be able to reach an agreement" and admitted "we have received offers for him, including the one from West Ham."

One more player

Calleri is set to become West Ham's seventh signing of the summer, with their latest signings been Arthur Masuaku, and club-record signing Andre Ayew, but Bilic admitted that the full-back was brought in for the injured Aaron Cresswell.

He said: "I said we would add five players to the squad" and "we were expecting a few to come back from injury and it was planned to sign a left-back."

Bilic concluded: "We were lacking options there and we really wanted to do it. I spoke to the chairman and maybe we need one more player."

West Ham United will take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday, August 15 with kick-off at 8pm BST.
