Mauricio Pochettino revealed that he's expecting more incomings at Tottenham Hotspur over the next few weeks, ahead of Friday's game against Atletico Madrid.

Spurs face the Spanish side at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in their second International Champions Cup game, having lost 2-1 to Juventus earlier this week. The two new signings that they've already made, Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen, both played in that game, but Pochettino is expecting more in the coming weeks, with the new Premier League season just 15 days away.

"I expect some signings in the next few weeks, we will see what happens but I expect some activity," said Pochettino, with the next man through the door likely to be Georges-Kevin Nkodou from Marseille, after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £10.9million for the winger.

Pochettino pleased with Simeone comparisons

Playing Atletico was always going to see comparisons made between Pochettino and his opposite number, Diego Simeone, especially in a week where both have been strongly linked to the vacant Argentina job, only to laugh off speculation that either will be leaving their club's anytime soon.

Regarding those comparisons to Simeone, Pochettino admitted that he considers them "a big prize", due to his belief that Simeone is "one of the best managers in the world"

Going into more detail about his countryman's obvious talent, Pochettino lauded Simeone for his achievements, quipping; "it is difficult to take a team like Atletico Madrid and play finals, Champions League finals and win the league in Spain."

Vertonghen nearly ready to return

It is true that Pochettino's young Spurs side will face a tough test against Atleti, especially without injured defender Jan Vertonghen

There was good news however, as the Tottenham boss revealed that his Belgian centre-back is firmly on the road to recovery, saying; "Jan is back in London and training well now, he's very close to coming back."

However, the manager conceded that he doesn't yet know whether or not Vertonghen will be able to play against Everton on August 13, insisting "we have enough players to replace him", should he remain out.
