Tottenham Hotspur are seeking to pin Eric Dier down for the long term, having reportedly began talks with the midfielder's agent over a fresh five-year-contract.

The new contract would keep Dier in North London until 2021, when he'd be 27-years-old, surely typing the defensive midfielder down for his best years.

Dier's wage to be upped following superb season

He's set to become one of the highest paid players at the club, with the new deal said to be paying in the region of £70,000 per week, nearly twice the wage packet that he signed when moving from Sporting Lisbon two years ago.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to reward Dier after an extremely strong season for Spurs, where he held down a place alongside Mousa Dembele in the midfield two, playing an integral role in their title challenge, and eventual Champions League confirmation.

Following on from that, Dier only raised his profile more by being one of the few England players to come out of the European Championship with some credibility, having scored in the opening game against Russia, looking comfortable in the middle of the park throughout. Some have even tipped him as a future captain of his nation.

Bayern Munich rumours firmly put to bed by contract

There had been reports that Dier's impressive form had let to a number of suitors from abroad, including Bayern Munich, with Carlo Ancelotti keen to bring him to the Allianz Arena. However, the Bavarians went on to seal the signature of Renato Sanches, and Dier's new contract should firmly quash those rumours.

Dier is set to return to pre-season training at Tottenham in the coming days, bidding to be back in action for next week's International Champions Cup game against Spanish side Atletico Madrid, ahead of the new season on August 13.
