Dele Alli has signed a new five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur in reward for his excellent start to life at the club.

19-year-old Alli signed for Spurs last February in a £5 million deal but didn't join from MK Dons until the summer, after helping the Dons to achieve promotion to the Championship. Since then, the young star has thrived, receiving praise and plaudits from pundits and fans alike and his new deal is expected to be worth £25,000 a week and will keep him at the club for another five years.

Jamie Carragher has said he "expects" him to be in England's Euro 2016 squad for the tournament in France this summer, having scored six times in his last 30 appearances for the club as well as making his international debut, which he topped it off with a stunning goal against club teammate Hugo Lloris.

Alli has played an influential part in Pochettino’s midfield and is one of Tottenham’s brightest young English talents along with Harry Kane and Eric Dier. Kane was also offered a five-year-deal 12 months ago and is expected to be next in line to receive one.

Alli “delighted” with Deal

The deal is a shrewd move from Spurs, who have yet to sign anyone in the current transfer window as they look to finish in the top-four this season. Alli has shown great progression and development under Pochettino thus far but acknowledged that the Argentine can only help him further as he said that he's still "got a lot to learn" and "can't think of a better place [than Spurs] at the minute to do that."

Alli also praised the club by saying that they have been “really great” to him until now, and believes they are have the potential to go “forward."

He later tweeted “Thanks to all the fans, players and staff that have helped me settle in" whilst he also reserved praise for his midfield partner Dier, who has says should get "a lot of credit for the way I've been playing" because he's "made it easier" for the teenager.

Alli's manager, Pochettino, added that the new deal is "very good news" for both the players and for Spurs, saying he "deserves it after the last six months, to improve his salary and his contract."
