Swansea City return to action in the now rebranded League Cup on Tuesday night against League One opposition, Peterborough United.

The Swans will hope to progress in the cup that means a lot to them. Their most successful run in the cup was back in 2013 when they won the trophy in a 5-0 Wembley whitewash of Bradford City, also beating Liverpool and Chelsea on the way.

Form

The Swans will travel to the ABAX Stadium on the back of their first defeat of the season suffered to Hull City on Saturday in the Premier League.

With a handful of chances squandered in the first half, Swansea would feel hard done by after Shaun Maloney put the Tigers one up, which was soon followed by Abel Hernandez' goal that wrapped up the three points for Mike Phelan's team.

On the other hand, Peterborough go into the game in good form after winning their last two games, one being against AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Team news

The home team look set to miss Ryan Tafazolli who is in doubt after a slight hamstring injury, but both Brad Inman and Lee Angol are out for sure after suffering ankle injuries. Posh Captain Jack Baldwin will also be unavailable for selection due to suspension.

Francesco Guidolin is expected to name a rotated XI but a strong enough squad to see off the League One opponents, telling the press pre-match: "We will go to Peterborough with a good team, try to win and continue in the competition."

Neil Taylor will make a return to the Swans having been allocated extra recovery period after serving Wales in the European Championships this summer in France. Former Netherlands under-21 Mike Van Der Hoorn will also play a part in the cup tie.

It is likely that Guidolin will hands firsts start of the campaign to seasoned Swans stars Angel Rangel and Nathan Dyer, as well as Jefferson Montero and Ki Sung-Yueng, who also had extended leave after international duty.

But Borja Baston will miss out his debut for at least another week after being ruled out by the Swans boss.
