Leroy Fer has admitted his desire to stay at Swansea City beyond the end of this season, with his loan deal to expire after the season ended on Sunday.

Fer made 11 appearances for the Swans after joining on loan from Queens Park Rangers in January, managing to earn himself nine starts in a very competitive midfield position.

However, fans at the Liberty Stadium will feel they haven't yet seen this best of him and now it is up to manager Francesco Guidolin to decide whether he wants to take a punt on the Dutchman, or whether he believes the player hasn't earned another chance.

Fer keen to stick around

One man whose mind is made up, meanwhile, is Fer's, who has admitted he wants to stay in South Wales.

"I'm very happy [with Swansea]," the player admitted, speaking to BBC Sport after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

However, it's not just down to him - or Guidolin - but down to chairman Huw Jenkins, who has the final say on transfers.

Nonetheless, Fer believes that those above the manager are "very happy with [him] right now," with the only obstacle that remains being discussions with his parent club, QPR.

"Hopefully in the future I can sign a deal," he continued. "I want to be more and more important for Swansea because the four months [on loan] went well."

Fer struggled to make an impact in London under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's charge, but says he was always "happy" at the club, his move in the January market was just about "playing at the highest league" - something he wants to continue doing now with Swansea.

Guidolin hoping to strike a deal

It's not just Fer keen on getting a new deal at the Liberty, but Guidolin is also hopeful of the Dutchman sticking around, judging by his pre-match comments last week.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Man City clash, the Italian described the midfielder as having been "a good surprise" for him, as he "didn't know him" before he arrived in South Wales to take over.

"He has helped the team in the last part of the season, he is a good player and it is possible he stays here," Guidolin continued.

At the time, the manager admitted he didn't know if Fer wanted to stay, but now that it's clear where the Dutchman wants to be, discussions could be underway quickly.
