Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he was in talks over a return to Swansea City.

The Swans parted ways with Garry Monk at the back end of last year and took their time appointing a replacement, with Alan Curtis taking up a caretaker role well into the New Year.

Francesco Guidolin was eventually appointed as Monk's successor last month, but Rodgers was linked with a return for some time - links that clearly had some truth in them as the Northern Irishman was in talks with those at the Liberty Stadium.

Return to South Wales was on the table

Speaking to the BBC, Rodgers revealed that he did speak to Swansea about a return to the club.

"I spoke to Huw Jenkins, the chairman, and people I know well," he said, with the manager still out of a job since leaving Liverpool last year.

"Swansea is a wonderful club," Rodgers continued, but the timing of the talks affected the potential of a return, with him making it clear that he "wasn't going to be available to come into a club before the summer."

"I was open and up front [about this]."

Time out

Only out of a job for a few months, it's clear that Rodgers was not keen on an immediate return to the game and that he instead wants to spend some time away from it before getting back involved.

"It's very intense when you are in the game," he said, and so he feels that he just wants "to take some time out."

Swansea haven't been the only club to express an interest in the manager's services since he left Anfield either. Rodgers says he has had "five opportunities" since being relieved of his duties on Merseyside, with the offers all coming from "clubs [he] really respect[s]."

Two of the offers came from the Premier League, however, he was "open" to these other clubs about his desire to spend time away from football until the summer too, and nothing has materialised yet as a result.
