Just one day after Sam Allardyce left Sunderland to be confirmed as England boss, the Black Cats have installed David Moyes into the vacant manager's position.

The 53-year-old has penned a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light; a vote of confidence that will take him through to 2020.

Moyes brings a vast amount of experience to the North East, and fans are already excited about what he can bring to the club.

Doing time in the lower leagues

The Scot has spent the majority of his managerial career in England, taking the reins at Preston North End, Everton and Manchester United.

He began with Preston in 1998 at just 35, keeping them in the old Division Two before reaching the play-offs the following season.

Despite defeat to Gillingham, Moyes managed to win the title a year later and then almost secured a Premier League berth in 2000-01 campaign.

The play-off heartache was, somewhat ironically, at the hands of Allardyce's Bolton. He then left Deepdale towards the end of the next season to take the Everton job.

Onwards to Everton, United and Real Sociedad

Moyes made his name with the Toffees and won the 2003, 2005 and 2009 League Managers Association Manager of the Year award while there.

He guided Everton to within touching distance of the UEFA Champions League, as well as keeping a consistent finish within the Premier League.

The Merseyside outfit also finished runners up in the FA Cup to Chelsea during the 2009 competition, in what was their first final appearance for 14 years.

Sir Alex Ferguson then announced that Moyes would succeed him as Manchester United manager at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Unfortunately for Moyes, he never managed to get going with the Red Devils and was sacked after 12 months in charge.

He spent a similar amount of time in Spain with Real Sociedad but still couldn't replicate the feats of his time with Everton and was relieved of his duties after a year.
