After Sunderland appointed their new chief executive Martin Bain at the weekend he has already been given the challenge, alongside manager Sam Allardyce, to shift unwanted players.

In a bid to revamp the squad ahead of next season, crucially trying to avoid yet another relegation battle, ten players who spent all or some of last season on loan have not been named in Allardyce’s plans for the future.

Out with the old

Danny Graham and Steven Fletcher find themselves out of contract whilst Jordi Gomez, Emanuele Giaccherini, Sebastian Coates, Charis Mavrias, Will Buckley, Liam Bridcutt, Adam Matthews and Santiago Vergini have at least one year left of their contract with the Black Cats.

Leeds United have announced their interest in making Bridcutt a permanent move after he as nominated for their Player of the Season award.

Vergini has returned from Getafe as a clause in his contract meant his loan side’s relegation from La Liga saw him come back to Wearside.

Speaking to the Chronicle about the loanee’s Sam Allardyce said, “They have been on loan and we’ll try to get them back out again at the earliest opportunity, if we can’t move them on permanently.”

Allardyce added that the circumstances ahead of the offloads are “part of the big summer turnaround.

In with the new

In the January transfer window the Black Cats manager brought in three valuable signings – Lamine Kone, Jan Kirchhoff and Wahbi Khazri – whose major influence on Sunderland guided them to safety once again.

Allardyce is reportedly eyeing two Swansea players – Andre Ayew and Bafetimbi Gomis – in an attempt to boost Sunderland’s attack.

Reports have also arisen about potentially bring Lyon striker Rachid Ghezzal to Wearside but other Premier League clubs are rumoured to be linked to the player such as Stoke, Arsenal and Liverpool.
