Fabio Borini should not be on his way out of Sunderland this summer, his agent believes.

The Italian striker has been a recurring figure in the gossip columns since the turn of the year, with him rumoured to be part of a £10 million plus player bid by the Black Cats in January for Swansea City's André Ayew.

Sunderland are believed to still be interested in the Ghana international but, for the time being, Borini's agent Roberto De Fanti sees "no reason" for an exit by his client.

Whether that will change if Sam Allardyce does bring in a striker, however, is unclear.

Any move is highly unlikely

Speaking to TMW Radio, De Fanti revealed that Borini was close to a return to Italy with Internazionale before rejoining Sunderland last summer, but he sees no reason why the player would opt to move to his homeland in the upcoming window.

"To tell the truth," De Fanti said, "Inter came close [to signing Borini]."

However, the striker "chose to continue his adventure in the Premier League" instead, leaving fellow top flight side Liverpool for the Black Cats, having enjoyed a loan spell on Wearside the year prior.

Borini's future was somewhat in doubt in the January window, with niggling injuries and a lack of form preventing him from nailing down a spot in the starting XI, but he will be glad he stuck around if he ever considered a move.

The Italian became an important figure as the season went on and would score some big goals in the quest for survival - most notably in the huge wins over Norwich City and Chelsea.

Borini has enjoyed his first season permanently on Sunderland's books too, and so De Fanti sees no transfer in his summer plans.

The agent believes his client is "content" on Wearside, adding that he sees "no reason" for him to "go back to Italy," even if Inter nearly got their hands on him this time last year.
