With José Mourinho watching from the teams' hotel after receving a one-match stadium ban, Chelsea were left without the self-professed 'Chosen One' and suffered another unlucky defeat at the hands of Stoke City - who now climb to 12th in the Premier League.

Stoke's determination

Stoke's bitter determination to overthrow Chelsea was evident yet again, after their win at the Britannia in the Capital One Cup last week.

However it was Marko Arnautovic's acrobatic 53rd minute finish that saw the Potters overcome Chelsea in a result that meant that Mark Hughes' side has only lost once in their last nine Premier League fixtures.

This was Arnautovic's first goal at the Britannia Stadium since May of last year, against now-Championship side Fulham. This however, further ensured that Chelsea have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight away games.

Stoke proved their worth in both halves, defending valiantly, exemplifying superb defensive orginisation, with centre-back Ryan Shawcross deservedly winning the Man of the Match award.

Yet again, Jack Butland was on fine form and commanded Stoke's backline and goal, saving shots from both Ramires and Diego Costa, making sure to claim back-to-back clean sheets in recent weeks.

Despite having a very nervy start to season, Mark Hughes has elevated his team superbly and must now be looking to exeed their previous Premier League finish of ninth place as the Potters have now kept four clean sheets in five games.

Pressure continues to build upon Chelsea and José

Having now lost again to Stoke, Chelsea have now lost seven of their last 12 games, an incredibly poor spell not seen by the club since 1978 (the last time the team were relegated) and also accounting for José Mourinho's worst run of form during his managerial career.

Though again, Chelsea have been incredibly unlucky in a match, with the likes of Pedro Rodríguez hitting the post in the first-half and Loic Remy squandering a golden opportunity to score in the latter stages after being introduced.

Again, Mourinho will feel his team will have been hard done by - after several possible penalty appeals were ignored by referee Anthony Taylor - with goal-scoring opportunities to equalise in the game were left absent, as their poor finishing and lack of attacking movement were evident to see.
