Stoke City manager Mark Hughes gave a brutally honest evaluation of his team's performance against Watford on Saturday.

Watford Victorious

Stoke City have lost their fourth game of the 2015/2016 season after Hughes' 100th game in charge of the Premier League club in all competitions.

Coming off the back of an impressive display against Swansea City midweek, Stoke looked set to advance further up the Premier League table after they hosted Watford at the Britannia Stadium. However a shocking performance in front of home fans saw the Hornets out on top in a 2-0 victory over Mark Hughes team.

Hughes left feeling unimpressed

Stoke City's 3 game winning streak has now come to an end after a lacklustre performance in both halves which saw Watford dominate thanks to strikes from Troy Deeney and Oidon Ighalo.

With Stoke City's defence unable to counter the devastating partnership of both Deeney and Ighalo, Hughes was left to comment that the Watford strikers had "messed" with his backline.

Following the game Hughes was asked if it was his worst game in charge of the Potters, which suggests that the display of his players was not up scratch. Hughes replied "it wasn't my best" and that in preparation for their next game against a troubled Chelsea side on Tuesday for the League Cup, the team will have to be "better than they were today".

Injury troubles

US international defender Geoff Cameron limped off at ten minutes during the game with a thigh injury, replaced by fellow central defender Marc Wilson who later on in the game, made an individual error that led to Watford's second in the match.

It is unknown whether this a potentially more serious injury for Cameron, however Hughes later lamented the reorganisation of his back line as a "disruption".

Defence liabilities

Following the result of Stokes' recent loss, the Potter's have kept just one clean sheet in ten Premier League home games, clearly depicting the troubles Mark Hughes faces with his back line.

Regardless of Chelsea’s poor run so far this season, Stoke will have to sharpen up if they want to progress further in the League Cup. Meanwhile their next Premier League game is away at St James’s park, against a rattled Newcastle United side after their recent derby defeat.
