Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven. The two clubs made the deal official Thursday morning, with the reported fee set at £25 million.

Depay’s transfer is subject to the completion of a medical, once that is done, the transfer can go through when the transfer window opens in June.

Depay, who has scored 49 goals in 122 appearances for the club he has been with since he was 12, has been viewed as one of Europe’s brightest young prospects since his impressive showing at the 2014 World Cup under then Dutch manager and current United manager Louis van Gaal.

The 21-year-old scored twice in the competition in Brazil, writing himself into the history books as the youngest Dutchmen to ever score at a World Cup.

"We are very proud of this upcoming transfer, which came in a huge momentum,” stated PSV’s technical manager Marcel Brands to the club’s official website.

"Memphis has gone through all the teams of the PSV youth academy and has played an important part in the national title this year.

"He's a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition.

"Regarding sports, we lose obviously a fantastic player, which is of great value to the team. But very PSV grants him this wonderful step.”

Depay is a natural winger, however, he can be deployed at striker if needed. There are suggestions that van Gaal will begin to play his preferred 4-3-3 full time, with his newest signing on one wing, and Premier League transfer record buy, Angel Di Maria, on the other.

The young Dutchman follows in the footsteps of the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jaap Stam, and Park Ji-Sung to make the move from PSV to England’s North East.
