Liverpool are stepping things up in their chase for Poland midfielder Piotr Zielinski, having reportedly submitted a bid of around £9.5million for the midfielder.

It's believed that the Pole is interested in a move to Merseyside, and is determined to join up with Jürgen Klopp's men in time for their pre-season schedule. Now, having lodged a bid, the Reds will be hope that they can edge the move a little closer to completion.

News of their interest in Zielinski has been fairly public for a while, never more so than when the man himself said that there was 'more to it than just rumours', back in March.

Bid of around £10million

However, there were some complications, with Serie A side Napoli also after the talented 22-year-old. With European football on offer, you could forgive Liverpool officials for worrying that Zielinski would prefer to stay in Italy and move to Naples, with Napoli submitting a bid of around £8.7million.

Despite this, it does appear that a phonecall with Klopp has convinced Zielinski that a move to the Premier League is what he wants, with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis saying "Liverpool have made a bid and he [Zielinski] wants to join them"

What does this mean for the likes of Allen?

With Marko Grujic already signed up, and Zielinski seemingly on his way in, it does leave question marks hanging over the futures of the likes of Joe Allen and Kevin Stewart.

With Grujic and Zielinski set to join Jordan Henderson and Emre Can amongst the centre-midfield options for next season, it would make sense if Wales international Allen opted to seek a move away, and for youngster Stewart to consider a spell on loan somewhere.
