West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool shared the spoils on the last day of the Premier League season, drawing 1-1 on a glorious sunny day at the Hawthorns.
Salomon Rondon gave the hosts an early lead, but it was quickly cancelled out by Jordon Ibe, neither side able to find a winner.
Eleven changes from Klopp with Europa final beckoning
Jürgen Klopp made eleven changes as he prepares for the Europa League final in midweek, with a mix of youngsters and bit-part players getting a run out for the Reds.
Cameron Brannagan made his full league debut in midfield, whilst Sheyi Ojo was awarded another chance to impress on the wing. Martin Skrtel and Christian Benteke both started in a game that many expect to be their last for the club.
The game started both short of pace and quality, with each team looking on the beach in all honesty. Due to this, it wasn't surprising to see that the opening goal came as a result of a flurry of Liverpool errors.
Rondon goal cancelled out by Ibe magic
Young West Brom player Jonathan Leko was allowed to dance through Kevin Stewart and Brad Smith, slipping the ball to Salomon Rondon who burst into the area before beating Adam Bogdan at his near post, poor from the Hungarian 'keeper.
However, Liverpool took just under 10 minutes to equalise, Jordon Ibe ending a frustrating season with his first league goal in a Liverpool shirt. Showing his quality, Ibe used his pace to cut inside from the right before drilling a left-footed effort into the bottom left hand corner.
Chances were few and far between
Bar the two goals, the first half was extremely short of incident. Liverpool grew in confidence after their equaliser and managed to retain possession with a little more ease, but struggled to unlock the West Brom defence.
It was the Baggies who went close to taking the lead at the start of the second 45, Rondon again troubling the away defence. Craig Gardner's cross was headed onto the post by the Venezuelan, who got to the rebound quickest, only to poke the ball over.
Ings and Henderson on the comeback trail
The biggest boost in the second half for Liverpool didn't come in the form of a chance, but in a double substitution. Danny Ings and Jordan Henderson entered the fray, Ings returning from an ACL injury that has kept him out since October, whilst Henderson could be back from an ankle problem just in time to partake in Wednesday's final.
There was time for one more opportunity, Benteke frustrating the away fans as he chose to look for a shot rather than pass when allowed room on the right hand side of the area, but in truth a winner would have been undeserved.
Liverpool finish eighth on 60 points, the Baggies will end up in 14th on 43, unless Bournemouth can win away at Manchester United after that game was abandoned.
