Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has paid tribute to the medical team that have helped him battle back from injury in recent weeks, ahead of Wednesday's Europa League final.

Hobbling off against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Reds' European quarter final in April, scans revealed that Henderson had damaged the lateral collateral ligaments in his left knee.

Henderson's season was thought to be over

At the time, Henderson was ruled out for six-to-eight weeks, a spell out that would have ended his domestic season and placed his participation in the upcoming European Championship into doubt.

However, the midfielder has recovered in amazing time, leaving manager Jürgen Klopp to state that he's waiting to see if Henderson can feature before the end of the season, possibly as an option off the bench against Sevilla in midweek.

Skipper hails staff for enabling speedy recovery

Speaking after training at Melwood on Friday, 'Hendo', said that he thinks he has a "good chance of being available" for selection against the Spanish side.

Stating, "I've worked hard, done everything I've been asked to do", Henderson was quick to pay tribute to the Liverpool medical team that have helped put him in this unlikely postition.

“The medical team have been fantastic," said the skipper, before adding that the fitness team have also been "brilliant", aiding him in maintaining his fitness whilst on the sidelines.

Admitting that "there were doubts", Henderson explained that he knew it was going to be a close ran thing, but he's "progressed really well" in the last couple of weeks.

There is always the risk that a final appearance might be too much too soon, Henderson saying that although he's "desperate to be involved", he needs to make sure he's ready.
