Liverpool are waiting to discover whether Danny Ings, Divock Origi and captain Jordan Henderson will be fit enough to feature in either of their two final games of the season, Jürgen Klopp has said.

Ings is yet to play under the German, having picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury within half-an-hour of Klopp's first training session as Reds boss.

But his rehabilitation has since gone smoothly over the last seven months and having been back in first-team training for a fortnight, there are hopes he could play on the final day of the Premier League season at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Origi and Henderson have slightly longer windows to return to fitness, because they are registered for European competition meaning they could take up a place in the matchday squad for the UEFA Europa League final against Sevilla next Wednesday.

Klopp, previewing both games in his pre-match press conference at the club's Melwood training ground on Friday afternoon, told journalists that the trio are working hard to return - but that the club are waiting to find out whether they will be able to feature.

Klopp confirms trio are in the running to return

"Three players might come back, we have to see" he said, when asked for an update on his squad's fitness, adding that he has not yet made "final decisions."

On whether Ings could make his long-awaited return from an injury that brought an abrupt end to a promising run of goalscoring form, Klopp said that they will "have to see" if Ings "in the circumstances" is "ready" to face West Brom at the Hawthorns.

He continued to say that Henderson "did a little bit more" in training recently but that both he and Origi, who hasn't featured since damaging ankle ligaments last month, are "both in a good way."

The Reds' skipper has been out longer than that, having not played since a knee injury sustained in the first-leg of the Reds' European quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund in April, with Klopp saying that they will "see what happens in the next [few] days."

However, the German revealed that it's not his decision as to whether they will play and explained to the media he is "used to taking what I get, in this situation especially" as he suggested that his medical staff will run the rule on any player's potential involvement.

"We have to wait but they are pretty close," he declared, insisting that "if the final was one week later, now we [would] talk" and there would be a strong chance of Henderson and Origi playing. However, he refused to officially rule them out by saying: "It will be close. We have to wait."

Reds potentially facing bizarre play-off for seventh

Should none of them make an appearance before May 18's final, there is a small probability that they could be involved in a potential play-off decider for who finishes 7th in the Premier League.

Any potential fixture relies on both Liverpool and West Ham United finishing on the same amount of points and the same goal difference and goals scored totals, with a game then deciding which team reaches next season's Europa League.

However, this is also dependent on Liverpool not winning the Europa League final - which would guarantee them a place in the group stages of the Champions League - and Manchester United beating Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final to open up 7th place in the league to a Europa League third-round qualifying spot.

In addition, the results required this weekend in the final round of league fixtures need West Ham to lose at Stoke City and Liverpool to beat West Brom to leave both clubs with identical records.

If Southampton then failed to beat Palace, both the Hammers and Klopp's side would be tied for sixth, whilst a Saints win could still mean both are on the same tallies for seventh.
