Wolverhampton Wanderers' Assistant Manager Joe Gallen says that fans should not expect to see any new signings at the club before the start of the Championship season next weekend.

However, the 42-year-old says he has every faith in Wolves' current squad after an impressive performance in a recent pre-season friendly draw with Premier League side Aston Villa.

Wolves have only brought in two players to the first-team fold so far this summer, with midfield pair Jed Wallace and Conor Coady arriving earlier in the transfer window.

However, the Black Country side have seen star man Bakary Sako leave the club following the expiry of his contract at Molineux - though he is yet to find a new club despite Premier League interest - while Tomasz KuszczakLeon Clarke and Michael Jacobs have also been allowed to depart.

Dave Edwards and Benik Afobe scored as Wolves held Villa to a draw on Tuesday night after a brace from giant forward Libor Kozák, and Gallen says that he would be happy to see the same side start the season against Blackburn Rovers.

Wolves are happy with what they have

Speaking with the Shropshire Star, Gallen said: "There haven’t been [a lot of new signings]. But looking at Tuesday night I was thinking if we go to Blackburn with that eleven and those subs, I would take that.

“With that group of players and that group of subs I will be pleased and feeling we can get a result.”

Despite the loss of winger Sako, Wolves will be targeting another play-off push this season having missed out on the final day last term on goal difference alone.

And with a talented squad at his disposal, manager Kenny Jackett is still looking to strengthen - but Gallen knows this will not be an easy ask, as the club will only bring in players they deem to be an upgrade on their current side.

Jackett will look to strengthen

"You are always looking [for players],” he continued. “If the right player comes up I’m sure everyone involved will go for it.

“But if you look at Tuesday night for example, the performance was high and it would be hard to get players [to improve on that].

“We need some players to beef up the squad but Kenny has always said if you bring in a player it has to be better than what you have got and I think that is going to be quite hard to do.

"I would be happy to go with the guys who faced Villa.”

A potentially tricky start to the season

Wolves conclude their pre-season campaign with a game against Doncaster Rovers of League One on Saturday, before travelling to Blackburn on the opening day of the league season.

Jackett will then enjoy three consecutive home games with Newport County travelling to Molineux in the Capital One Cup before back-to-back clashes with recently-relegated duo Hull City and QPR.
