Sky Bet League One clubs Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic face competition as both battle for the signature of Leeds United striker Billy Sharp, according to the Sheffield Star.

Sharp, 29, has just one year left on his current contract at the Sky Bet Championship side, and with the arrival of Leicester City’s Chris Wood at Elland Road, the striker’s future at the club has become unclear.

A number of clubs interested in Billy Sharp

Manager Uwe Rosler told the Yorkshire Evening Post that there is "some interest" not only from the two clubs mentioned, but also from "other clubs." Rosler however did fail to say whether he was planning to keep him in West Yorkshire.

The 29-year-old is a veteran of the lower tiers of English football with Rolser saying Sharp has "a lot of experience" and is a "proven goal scorer," but stated the West Yorkshire side "have a number of strikers."

Sharp boasts a wealth of experience

Sharp has featured for a number of clubs which include Rushden & Diamonds, Scunthorpe, Doncaster Rovers, Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Reading throughout his 11-year career.

Rosler added he's very "happy with every player I have in my squad."

Sharp has had two previous spells at Bramall Lane, scoring eight goals in 53 appearances between 2004-05 and 2007-10. He also has experience with Blades manager Nigel Adkins during his time at the Saints, Reading and Scunthorpe.

Rosler also went on to mention that the veteran striker is: "under contract with us" and that "when other clubs are interested in players they have to talk to (owner Massimo) Cellino.

"Then we’ll see if it's possible or not possible to keep them or let them go. That's where we are."

The German coach will be looking to bring some stability to Elland Road after he became the fifth coach in 12 months, following the departures of Brian McDermott, Dave Hockaday, Darko Milanic and most recently, Neil Redfearn
