Norwich City have today sold winger Elliot Bennett to Blackburn Rovers. The 27-year-old joins the club after struggling to make much of an impact at Carrow Road.

Long road to Ewood Park for Bennett

Bennett started his football career at Wolves where he only had a limited amount of game time and was mainly used in the cup games, before having loan moves to football league clubs Bury and Crewe. This move brings Bennett back with former boss Paul Lambert, who also signed Bennett from Brighton and Hove Albion when managing Norwich.

Bennett was a permanent fixture for Norwich under Lambert in his first season and he made a total of 32 appearances in his first season with the Canaries. His first goal came with a deflected strike against Tottenham Hotspur in a narrow 2-1 win. His team were then relegated from the Premier League, which meant that he went back to Brighton on loan before then coming back to Norwich and was a key member in helping them get promoted in the 14/15 season.

Winger could make his debut at the weekend

At the beginning of this season the 27 year old left Norwich on loan and went to Bristol City where he played a total of 15 games before facing Blackburn as recently as last month. This is a huge signing for the club as they look to rebuild after a difficult start to the season which sees them lie in 17th place in the Championship at the half way stage. You would expect Bennett to feature in Rovers' first FA Cup game of the season where they travel to Wales to meet League Two strugglers Newport County on Saturday.

This was Rovers' first signing of the January transfer window as they look to find the players to keep them away from the dreaded relegation zone, as a club like Blackburn should be fighting for much bigger and better things.
