Blackburn Rovers' Swedish international defender Marcus Olsson has signed a new contract at the club, extending his stay to the summer of 2016.

Olsson, 26, has made 24 appearances for Blackburn so far this season, and has spoken warmly of his pleasure at the club's good form in the Sky Bet Championship which sees them in 10th at time of writing.

"It's very pleasing. We're playing well and when the team is doing well you want to be a part of it going forward," he said in an interview with the club website.

"I've been happy with how I've played this season. I think I've done well in a lot of games, but I'm always looking to improve my game, in every aspect, and get better."

Olsson joined Blackburn in January 2012 following the expiry of his contract at Halmstads BK in his native Sweden, and has since gone on to make 66 league appearances for the club, scoring once. He also has two caps for his national team, but has not featured for Sweden since making two substitute appearances against Bahrain and Qatar in 2012.
