Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp launched a scathing attack on broadcaster TNT Sports ahead of his side's clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The German believes that broadcasters should be held partly responsible for the heavy workload placed on the Premier League's elite players and the fact that English clubs have fallen short in continental competitions this season.

"In general, it’s a really interesting subject, seeing that Aston Villa lost 4-2 last night, means if they go out no English team is any kind of European final.

if you make of that we all under-performed, maybe in moments, us against Atalanta, stuff like this, but I watch a lot of football and the Premier League is the best in the world, but the players are over-worked."

TNT Sports have selected his team for the maximum amount of Saturday lunchtime kick-offs allowed this season (six) and Klopp made his frustration clear once again.

"I had a discussion the other day with colleagues from my favourite TV Channel, which I definitely will never watch again, TNT.

It’s always a conversation ‘yeah but they pay you, they give money to football’, I really do not see it like that, it is the other way round, football pays them.

You have to become the partner of football again, not just the squeezer, that is just a little advice from an old man on the way out.

Manchester City and Arsenal, out in the quarter-finals [of the Champions League], us out in the quarter-finals [of the Europa League], it is not a reflection of quality, yes other countries have good teams, but it is a sign.

Years ago I think we had four English teams in quarter-finals, we take that and say 'it's the quality of the Premier League, let's make more of it', we have to change that approach.

You always think when I speak about it, it is because of our situation, no it is a general problem.

That they dare to give Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday 12:30, is a crime, I was actually waiting for Amnesty International to go to them.

I would like to be part of that meeting when somebody says ‘Liverpool 12:30’ and the whole room is bursting out laughing.

I got sent the stats, the quickest turnaround in the world, Liverpool FC, that is absolutely insane but they are still happy and collecting subscribers, you can take me off that list.”

Asked if he would consider a role in the administration of the game after he calls it quits to ensure player welfare, Klopp did not expect that to be a possibility.

“Yesterday I got an award from the PFA, I think for speaking up for players. I never thought about it, but they will need people.

Imagine me becoming FIFA president, it is obviously a well paid job that is why they all want to do it, I don’t think I will spend my lifetime on these kind of things.

In the end, one person cannot put it right, as long as the rest watch and think ‘they will be fine, they earn millions, let them do that, let them play there, let’s do the first three games in America’.

Alone you cannot change nothing, probably wouldn’t survive in that sea of sharks, I don’t think I would do that.”

  • Mo Salah spat and his future

The Reds boss confirmed that Mohamed Salah and himself have resolved their touchline argument from Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham.

He also confirmed that he will have no impact on whether the Egyptian decides to stay at Anfield.

“Completely resolved. It’s not a problem.

If we didn’t know each other for that long, I'm not sure how we would deal with it.

We know each other for that long and respect each other too much that it is really no problem.

I think we have the right to deal with these kind of things completely independent of any expectations from the outside, we are absolutely fine with it, that’s a non-story.

In general, the best situation would be, everybody is in the best possible place, we win the games, score loads of goals, then the situation wouldn’t have been like that, because Mo wouldn’t have been on the bench in the first place.

You all have to get used to, it is not my subject anymore, Mo is incredible, but I don’t think I should speak about that.

Other people will decide that, especially Mo, but I am the wrong person to talk about these things.

The future of the club, I just try to prepare the basis for that and I think that is what we did.”

  • Securing top 4 and Tottenham clash

The 56-year-old insisted that securing Champions League football for next season is a big deal, and hopes his team can finish the season on a high playing good football.

“I was really happy, it is an achievement.

Does it feel to everybody like that, maybe not, to me it does.

That’s how the perspective can change during a season, for a while, we looked like we can go all the way or at least stay in the race for longer.

For different reasons that did not work out, I know mathematically there is still a chance, but the pressure is off now, it would be really cool if we could play good football again.

We were very tense in the last weeks, we had a super intensive period, it didn’t work out for too well after a long season.

Going back to the start of the season, everybody knew how important it would be to qualify for the Champions League again, as we did, that is super important for the future of the club.”

Asked about Sunday's opponents and the controversial loss earlier in the season in London, Klopp insisted that it will still be a tough contest despite the opposition losing three in a row.

“You expect a good footballing side, I thought they put Chelsea under pressure, if you don’t defend Tottenham properly, they will still play through it.

They have options to change, do they start with Son up-front or on the wing?

I understand Ange doesn’t think it is a great moment because of their own expectations but you can always see a clear footballing idea, so we will have to be prepared for that, defend really compact.

If you don’t do that they will play through, so it is always a challenge.

I cannot forget [the reverse fixture], I would like to win that game for 500 reasons, the way we lost there is one of them."

The game is the German's penultimate game at Anfield, but he confirmed that it is just another game and emotions will not get the better of him.

"So far I didn’t think about it, from time to time I have these little goodbyes.

I don’t think it will be emotional, but we will see, I will sit in the bus on Sunday and I know I will be 100% focused on the game.”
