Australia take on Bangladesh in the fifth Group 2 match of the Super 10's stage at the 2016 World T20, with both sides in desperate need of a victory after losing their opening fixtures, writes Tom Mason

You sense that the losers of this match will all but be out of the tournament, owing to the fact that New Zealand have already won their first two games, leaving it likely that only one position remains open to qualify for the semi-final stage.

The Australians go into this fixture as favourites but in this format you can never predict the outcome, as anyone can turn a game on its head in a matter of overs.

Lehmann's side go in search of quick turnaround

It is a vital game for Darren Lehmann's side after they lost their opening match of the tournament to New Zealand by eight runs on Friday.

The Kiwis batted first and reached 142-8 from their 20 overs, which seemed underpar at the time but, the New Zealand spinners continued to impress and limited the Aussie's to 134-9 from the their 20 overs.

The defeat was a real setback for the Aussie's, as prior to the tournament they were one of the favourites to win the event alongside India, which highlights  importance of not slipping up tomorrow against a dangerous Bangladesh side.

Bangladesh head to Bengaluru in search of win

Bangladesh also lost their opening match of the tournament in the Super 10 stages against Pakistan by 45 runs. Although they lost the game, there were a number of positives to take from the match and this is something they will be looking to take into Monday's fixture.

Bangladesh got through to the Super 10's after winning their qualifying group and as a result, they have become accustommed to the conditions and will hope this helps them to cause a real threat to a powerful Australian side.

Bangladesh's batting is really strong at the moment and can cause real problems to any bowling attack, but their bowling unit has had it's struggles, and has been hurt even more by the losses of Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny who have been banned by the ICC for an illegal action.

Previous meetings

These two nations have met just three times in the shortest form of the game and, on each occasion the Aussies have come out on the winning side.

Their most recent T20 meeting was almost two years ago when the pair met in Dhaka in April 2014 and the Aussies prevailed on that occasion after Aaron Finch and David Warner put on an opening stand of 98 to set their side on their way to completing the victory.

Monday's game is a really interesting battle and you can expect to see loads of runs scored as both teams have got attacking batting line-ups and have looked really dangerous in recent match which they have played.

Key Players

Glenn Maxwell - Maxwell is vital to Australia's success in the shortest form of the game as he bats at number five and he also bowls spin which brings a different element to his already impressive game.

He is capable of winning his side a match with the bat in the space of just a couple of overs and can cause damage to any bowling attack around the world and he has been a consistent performer throughout the years in this format. The man is a superstar and is a player that the neutrals want to see perform on the big stage every game.

In the loss to New Zealand he contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 22 from 23 balls whilst also claiming two wickets from his three overs on his way to figures of 2-19. Maxwell will be hoping to offer more with the bat tomorrow as he looks to help his side to their first win.

Tamim Iqbal - Iqbal is Bangladesh's key man as he is an explosive opener and he can, like Maxwell, take a game away from an opponent in a matter of moments and put his side on the front-foot in the power-play.

Iqbal's runs were a key reason as to why Bangladesh reached this stage. He has really developed well over recent months and is now seen as one of the best strokemakers in T20 cricket. If Tamim can continue to dominate bowling attacks, you would think that it won’t be long until he is getting looked at for a possible return to the IPL fold.

If Bangladesh are to get the win in Bengaluru, Iqbal will need to be at his best and to get his side off to a flying start as their middle order hasn't been quite at it in recent weeks which is a real problem for the team.

Team News

Australia

Darren Lehmann has opened up the possibility that Finch may be squeezed back into the side, while Ashton Agar could pay for his rusty over costing 18 against New Zealand by making way for Josh Hazlewood. One thing that can be said for the Aussies is that they have got a number of options available to them in all areas of the game and if they were to make a rotation it wouldn't really be making them a weaker side.

Australia Squad: Steve Smith*, Dave Warner, Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Nevill†, Andrew Tye, Shane Watson, Adam Zampa.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh must find replacements for the banned duo of Taskin and Arafat Sunny, who have both been ruled out due to questions over their bowling actions which were raised in the earlier qualifying match against Netherlands

They don't have too many options which they can call upon to replace the banned duo for this match as they don’t' have anything like the strength in depth Monday's opponents posses.

Bangladesh Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza*, Shakib Al Hasan, Abu Hider, Al-Amin Hossain, Arafat Sunny, Mahmudullah, Mohammad Mithun, Mushfiqur Rahim†, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar,Tamim Iqbal, Taskin Ahmed.
